![]() ![]() Once I have the handle and can do some measurements, I'll know if want to consider ordering in the BC 30 & Garmin DriveAssit 51 LMT. Can you explain the silver knob I circled above? Does it have threads that go into the camera body or attach to threads that come out of the camera body? I'm hoping I can use the knob on the other side for adjustment with a custom bracket to possibly hold the camera in place within the handle. I think it will be a tight fit width wise and I will likely have to remove the knob on one side to get it to fit. I am considering installing this camera in this tail gate handle for a camera. This appears to be some method of adjusting the angle of the camera with the knurled knobs. If you look at the picture 2 posts above you will see the camera attaches to a bracket meant to attach to a license plate. His measurements gave a greater width than height. Hi have not personally seen a BC 30 camera yet sent me some measurements of his camera. I found, miraculously, that the diameter of the holes (with the rubber plugs removed) was the perfect size for the much bigger self-tapping screws that came with the mounting bracket, so in the end I didn’t have to drill any additional holes in the bumper. Also, for mounting the license plate, Honda provided holes in the bumper that had little rubber plugs, enabling relatively low gauge self-tapping screws to be used to attach the plate to the bumper. I neglected to mention that my Ridgeline is a 2007. I intend to put a little glue on the camera lugs that are inserted into the license plate to make it wobble less. I did so because I thought it would help to secure the camera to the license plate-it did, but the problem is that because of the size of the bezel I bought, you can't lower the tail gate without hitting the camera! So, I had to remove the bezel. ![]() Lastly, don't make the mistake I made in buying a stainless steel bezel for the license plate. I'm with you on the cost issue: provided you can get a compatible Garmin GPS at a reasonable price (I did, buying a "used" unit from Amazon warehouse that wasn't used at all) you end up with a GPS as well as a good video camera, and can easily move the GPS from one location to another. Although it was positioned vertically, not horizontally as recommended by Garmin, the camera connected fine to the Garmin. The transmitter comes with a very strong thin adhesive pad, and attached easily to a vertical bulkhead inside the light enclosure. As previously reported, the green wire is positive, orange is ground. I didn't have much luck with using connectors for splicing the ends onto the wires feeding the reverse lamp, because the Garmin wires are very thin-others may have been more successful, but I decided to solder the connections. I put heat shrink around the assembly to guard against water, but that may not have been necessary because when I pulled the cable through to the rear light enclosure, the ends I had heat shrunk came within the rear light enclosure and therefore would not be exposed to water, dust etc. Then I fed the cable from the transmitter (having removed the rear light enclosure) through the bumper and connected the two ends together using the plugs that come with the BC30. Therefore, the video cable is not behind the plate bracket at all, and doesn't contact the bumper. With a rotary file attached to a drill, I ground a couple of channels to feed the cable from the camera to a hole I made in the bracket, which enabled the cable to be inserted into a corresponding hole in the bumper. In order to avoid pinching the video cable, I bought a plate mounting bracket, made of polycarbonate, and quite strong. ![]() If you're inclined to follow Garmin's advice, make sure that if you put the camera there, you can close the tail gate (see below). The camera was installed at the center of the license plate, not in line with one of the license plate screws as suggested by Garmin. The dimensions of the camera are WxHxD 3.0 cm x 2.6 cm x 2.8 cm. I installed the camera system yesterday in my 2007 RL and am very satisfied with the resolution. ![]()
